Covered in Crud

Somedays it's so easy to get weighed down by the day-to-day grind of life.
Somedays you feel heavy (in body or spirit).
Somedays you feel like you are covered in crud.
Somedays your emotions get the best of you.
Somedays you actually hold it together and get through the day without losing it.
I pray that today is that day...for you and for me.

The Shack

Well I just got done reading a book that I think everyone should read. It is called "The Shack" by William Young. It is an inspirational fiction book, but it will change your life and your perspective on God, on forgiveness and on your life. I have just experienced a great loss in my life and the pain is so real and fresh. I purchased this book about two months ago, but I didn't start reading it until this past week, which is such a God-thing. Not that I didn't need it two months ago and wouldn't have gotten anything out of it, but I really needed it now. I cried and laughed, and I could barely put it down. I will admit with what's been going on in my life I was angry with God, my prayers were not answered. But as Mack found out we surely are in no position to judge God.
I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
To explain how good this book is...my husband saw it on the counter, picked it up and read a few pages and never put it down. He took it to a hockey game and read it during the game.
To give you more of a clue - my husband has not read a book since high school and last night when I got done reading it, he wanted to discuss it.
Yeah you should read it too!

Textures In Nature

Here are two more photos from my final project. It went very well last night and I had many compliments on my photos. It was a fun class and I shot more consistantly than I have in a long time. I'm always anxious to learn new things and to have a group of peers to critique my work is an added bonus.

Textures In Nature

This is image #2 in the series "Textures in Nature" for my final project.

The girls have been sick, but everyone went to school today. The doctor said both Madison and Kennedy are suffering from allergies. We knew Kennedy has massive allergy issues, but this is a new thing for Madison. Kennedy went to bed at 6:30 last night! That girl was tired and worn out (from laying around all day?). So I medicated them and sent them off to school.

My final photography class is this week on Thursday. We have a large final project - a gallery showing if you will. We got to pick our own topic. I have chose Textures in Nature. So if you see me looking towards the ground, I am not being snooty I am looking for something to take a picture of! If all my bloggy friends would keep their eyes to the ground too and let me know if you see anything interesting! I am also watching for tulips and their other spring friends to pop through the cool hard soil! I love that about spring!

Maple Syrup Festival

This past weekend was the Maple Sugar Festival at the Kalamazoo Nature Center. We took the girls on Sunday and had a great time. We got to see how the sap runs from the trees into the buckets.
The we got to see them boil it down into syrup.

We toured the DeLano House, made paper baskets like they used to use to collect sap, had a horse drawn wagon ride and ate ice cream drizzled with maple syrup. This past year was the first year we had a family membership to the KNC and we got our moneys worth. We did a few programs, visited animals in the barn, saw butterflies in the butterfly house, walked trails, and did letterboxing. It's a great value and fun for the whole family!

Photo Shoot

Every few months my girls like to play dress up and have a "photo shoot". For a mom who takes pictures all the time this is a real treat because my girls get tired of me taking their pictures. So when they ask me - I jump at the chance. Usually before a "photo shoot" they like to get dressed up, do their hair and their makeup oh yeah and paint their nails of course! I have a small home studio that is in my basement. So today I am sharing shots from my latest "photo shoot". Enjoy!

Flooding and Freezing

On my way home from a baby shower on Saturday afternoon I passed an area that was flooded, which is not uncommon right now. What was unusual was that there were frozen circles around the base of each tree in this flooded area. Bright icy patches surrounded each trunk. It was such a rare sight that I had to of course take some pictures to share with you!
ps I don't know about you but I put on shorts today! I am loving this weather and besides Girls on the Run starts this afternoon!

Matthew 13:23

But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."
This is from Girl Scout Sunday, this past sunday at church.

When Life Gives You Puddles...

Ever taken the time to look in puddles after a good long rain? You never know what you will find lurking in puddles!

Photography Tip

Ok today I am going to give you a photo tip because I am short on time.

One of the best things you can do when you photograph children especially, is to get in close. Use your zoom or physically just get closer to your subject. Also it is more appealing to the eye to not have your subject directly in the middle of your shot. Place them a little to one side. You create a whole new feel and look by simply following these two simple rules.

Have a great day and shoot some pix in this beautiful spring-like weather! Is it here to stay?

The weather forcast for this weekend sounds a little like spring and after this cold spell it sounds like heaven to me. So enjoy the remaining images of winter - hopefully they won't be back anytime soon.

Love Them Like Jesus - Casting Crowns

This is a Casting Crowns song that I have relied on a lot lately. The love of her life is drifting away
They're losing the fight for another day
The life that she's known is falling apart
A fatherless home, a child's broken heart
You're holding her hand, you're straining for words
You trying to make - sense of it all
She's desperate for hope, darkness clouding her view
She's looking to you
Just love her like Jesus, carry her to Him
His yoke is easy, His burden is light
You don't need the answers to all of life's questions
Just know that He loves her and stay by her side
Love her like JesusLove her like Jesus
The gifts lie in wait, in a room painted blue
Little blessing from Heaven would be there soon
Hope fades in the night, blue skies turn to gray
As the little one slips away
You're holding her hand, you're straining for words
You're trying to make sense of it all
They're desperate for hope, darkness clouding their view
They're looking to you
Just love them like Jesus, carry them to Him
His yoke is easy, His burden is light
You don't need the answers to all of life's questions
Just know that He loves them and stay by their side
Love them like Jesus
Lord of all creation holds our lives in His hands
The God of all the nations holds our lives in His hands
The Rock of our salvation holds our lives in His hands
He cares for them just as He cares for you
So love them like Jesus, love them like Jesus
You don't need the answers to all of life's questions
Just know that He loves them and stay by their side
Love them like Jesus
Love them like Jesus

You don't need all the answers to all of life's questions! Amen.

Father/Daughter Dance

This past Saturday was the Father/Daughter Dance.

Madison wore an elegant black dress.

Kennedy wore a lovely lavendar dress.

This was daddy and Madi's 4th dance.

This was Kennedy's first time at the dance.

Daddy treated his daughters to a gourmet meal at Fireside before the dance.

Daddy even sprang for a limo...ok the real estate market is slow and this is the best we could do! Just kidding...the girls were more excited about taking our neighbor's mini-bus than actually going to the dance!

Photo contest

A blog I frequently read had a photo contest for the month of February. I was not the overall winner, but I was featured in the top ten!

check it out at www.jasondmoore.com/blog/

I will post some pix tonight from the father-daughter banquet, but now I have to get back to work!
